Gyms in Bangkok

On my facebook page (thats a plug for you to like my page), I got asked about gyms in Bangkok and what the situation is, he asked the right guy. I lift more than a fork lift and have more mass on my body than the planet Pluto.

Gyms in Bangkok

Cali Wow

The most famous Gym franchise in Bangkok was Cali wow which no has shut down all its gyms expect for one located in Siam. I would not recommended signing up, because its only a matter time before that branch is shut down too.

The Racquet Club (RQ)

The Racquet Club is located on Sukhumvit soi 49 and is open from 6am until 11pm. Yearly memberships at this gym start from 21,400 baht. Of all the gyms in Bangkok this I think is ranked #1, it is also the only gym in Bangkok which has a rock climbing wall on its premises.  Other things include:

  • Badminton
  • Tennis
  • Racket ball & Squash
  • Swimming pool & Spa
  • Rock climbing – The rock @ 49
  • Futusla
  • Advanced Golf Simulators
  • Snooker/Pool hall
  • Table Tennis
  • Fully functioning fitness room

The pricing for the Racquet Club is expensive compared to even most gyms in Europe, but the place is usually quite which is a bonus compared to other gyms in Bangkok.

True Fitness

True Fitness is located in Asoke, about 10 seconds from the BTS, and has a fully functioning fitness room and studio rooms for yoga and spin classes. Membership prices are negotiable here, but I have been told by a few people that they will try and trick you into buying year or life memberships using clever jargon, so just be careful.

True Fitness also has two other gym locations in Bangkok, one being at central world, and the other in Khae-Rai.

Ekkamai Gym

I don’t actually know the name of this gym, but its were I go to make all my gains, membership for the year is 200baht, and then its 30 baht each time I visit. After 10 visits you get a free visit.

I am the only farang in this place, but it doesn’t matter because most people are friendly enough. This is a broken gym, don’t expect it to have all the bells and whistles that True Fitness or the Racquet Club have. As far as Gyms in Bangkok go, this is near the bottom of the list. The thing I like here is, that its cheap and I’m not being forced into buying pricy long term memberships.

The Gym does not have a website, but offers a huge swimming pool, and tennis courts for 40baht an hour! The location is next more or less directly opposite Major Ekkami, it can be a bit tricky to find, but if you catch the BTS from Ekkami to Thong lo, and face the even number sois on the BTS, you will see the huge swimming pool.

PS: This Thai gym does not have aircon either.

Lumpini Gym

Located in Lumpini Park, the cost for farangs to use this gym is 20baht, it has everything you need and is outside, most days its packed with Somchais lifting all kinds of crazy weights. Some of them take more juice than a Bangkok fruit blender, but I won’t say that too there face. No membership fees or anything else required here, usually quite busy with welcoming Thai people.
