I’d say you’re meeting the wrong girls or giving off the giving off the wrong message. I’m a walker. No, not a zombie from The Walking Dead; I generally prefer to walk rather than drive, taxi, moto, BTS, Grab, whatever. If it’s less than 5km and it’s not raining than I walk. I stay around Phrom Phong when i’m in Bangkok so that means most days I am walking either up to Thonglor/Ekamai or down to Asoke/Ploen Chit, or any multiple combination of thereof throughout the day. This takes me past most of the prime farang FL street hangouts, and yes I often end up in some of the FL bar/club venues too of an evening as well. I don’t claim to know or be mates with even 1% of the FL’s I see every day but I do recognise them and they recognise me and off the top of my head I can only think of about half a dozen that I would say are proper nutjobs or to be avoided at all costs.

This is spot on. It seems almost common sense and logical doesn’t it? It’s nice to be nice. (drink on me if you can name the Bangkok bar that has that saying on a sign inside) If you think that though then unfortunately you’re not taking into account the sheer, way out of normal kilter amount of badly damaged, problematic, disturbed, basically wrong’un farangs/tourists that inhabit the FL active areas if Bangkok. It’s these guys that can cause the problems and thus effect the attitudes and behaviours of the FL’s they deal/interact with.
Overall: If a situation or FL feels wrong it/she/him probably is wrong. Walk away. Politely.

Actually they usually call all part-time Thai Free Lancers “Dek Sideliner Girls” whether they work in a soapie, massage parlor, bar, or on the street. This Dek Sideline girl probably doesn’t have enough money to cover the costs of living and school so hence, she needs to do something on the side that covers her costs. That just so happens to be selling her tight little snapper on weekends or after class. These Sideliners are usually more sought after and command a higher price since they tend to be younger and hotter and less used and abused than full-time Freelancers and pros.

I once met a woman who had a daily job in a massage parlor, she was working on commission, not renting her space from the store. Was expected to work daily bringing customers in off the street. She was sooo tired, she convinced to come in for a massage, I ended up paying for 2 hours and we just lay down on the mat and napped. I came back the next day, we did the same. I’ve been to Bangkok five times and always stay on Soi 11, right in the middle of the freelancer activity. Soi 11 is also close to Nana Plaza, and I always spend a few nights there, usually in Spanky’s. There are many freelancers who are quite overt in their appearance and easy to identify. Tight, low cut black or red dresses are common. As stated, they also make a great deal of almost “predatory” eye contact. Sometimes they will call out to you. And then, we have the other type, who are usually sitting alone at a bar or restaurant, appear oblivious to your presence and look like a college girl out for the evening. They can also be found sitting in the McDonalds on Sukhumvit. These girls are younger, fresher and more attractive that the garden variety hooker…so, more desirable. If you’re not sure, you can buy them a drink or just walk up to them and ask if you can get a massage. I’ve been told that at least 90% of these younger, less obvious gals are, in fact, hookers. You should not have to pay anymore than 2,500 THB.
