Obtener un visado turístico tailandés en Ciudad Ho Chi Minh
I recently got a single entry Thai tourist visa from Ciudad Ho Chi Minh, and if you’re planning a visa trip soon but aren’t sure where the best place is to get one, here’s how to get a single entry Thai visa in HCM like a boss.
Paperwork you need
To get a single entry Thai tourist visa in Ho Chi Minh City, you need:
- Valid passport (6 months or more left)
- Inbound and outbound ticket from Thailand
- Application form filled out (you can ask for one there)
- 1 passport photo
You may also need to show at least 20,000b which is stated on the official embassy website, although I wasn’t asked. You can use a bus or train ticket for your proof of entry and exit out of Thailand.
Questions they asked me at the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City
They asked me nothing.
When I applied for my single entry Thai tourist visa, I had already come off a triple-entry Thai visa and was expecting some sort of questioning.
But questions…not even once.
The Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City opens at 8:30am until 11:30am in the morning and this is when you can apply for a single entry Thai visa. I went on a Monday and there were a few people in line already.
I reckon I spent a total of 25 minutes there which included filling out my form.
To get a single entry Thai tourist visa will cost you $40, they do not accept VND. They told me to come back the next day between 1:30pm- 3pm to collect.
I came back at 1:30pm and they give me my passport within 2 minutes of being there and that was that.
How long did you stay for? I’ve never been to HCMC before, I hear the nightlife is ok.
5 days, nightlife is good but nothing compared to Bangkok.
so nice
Interesting article, might go for my next visa run. So it is possible to do a BKK-HCMC in the morning, apply for a visa as soon as you arrive, and get the passport back and fly back to BKK on the very next day ?
Yes it is although it’s really worth staying a few days as it’s a fun town.
Hola,
How did you get on with this Visa run?
Was it successful? I am debating Laos again as I want to get a 60 day visa.
I hold a British passport.
Gracias
Two of my friends came back with no issues only 2 weeks ago.
You think its possible to get a double or triple entry in HCM? I have been in bkk almost 2 months on 1 mo visa exempt and then 1 month extension. Trying to get a visa and come back for as long as possible.
nevermind, looks like double and triple have been abolished everywhere. its either single or the new metv
I’ll probably be going to Ho Chi Minh for a visa run at the end of may. This is good information. When I did my Visa run to Cambodia it was a huge pain in the ass, scammers everywhere. Will probably do as you did, and fly into Vietnam next.
What does it mean, inbound and outbound ticket?
What if I don’t know when I will leave Thailand?
It means your entry and exit ticket. If you don’t know when you will leave then you won’t be able to get a visa here.
niko:
Buy a cheap ticket from Bangkok to Malaysia, Laos, or Cambodia and show that in Ho Chi Minh as your Thai exit ticket.
Once you get your 60 day tourist visa in Ho Chi Minh you can throw away that “exit ” ticket if you want to.
The purpose of the cheap exit ticket is just to get the Thai touriist visa in Ho Chi Minh.
Hola,
Thanks for the free post, I got my visa at the embassy with no issues. Seems like if you just give them EVERYTHING they want and get out there are no problems.
I fly to Bangkok soon and I have heard immigration will ask for proof of adequate funds. I walked all around Ho Chi Minh today and can’t find anywhere to buy Thai Baht. Did immigration at the airport ask you for any kind of further proof and what did you do?
You can show them 20,000b in other currency so perhaps take our USD. You won’t be able to get THB anywhere until you pass the immigration. I am not sure if there are ATMs before then. They asked me verbally when I will leave Thailand, but did not ask to see a ticket.
Hi, i’m going to obtain a SETV in HCMC and then do 30 days extension when in Thailand (to stay the total of 90 days). Can the exit ticket I show in the consulate be 90 days from the date of entry ticket? Or should it be 60 days? (I gonna use it, no throwaway!) And where can I get USD cash in HCMC to show them the funds? ATM only give out VND.
I usually show them a ticket within 60 days, I think that is the safest way. All around District one there are tour shops that will exchange VND to USD.
I understand you also need to provide printed evidence of the place where you’re staying for at least half your trip.. or if its with a Thai ‘friend’ a copy of their ID and even a copy of their home/ house registration. Was NEVER asked this before. Seem to be trying to make things much more difficult! I would think most travellers applying to come in on longer visas are back-packers and therefore highly unlikely to have all their accomm etc, even exact-date ticket OUT, pre-arranged!
Thanks Lee, last time I did have to show a hotel booking, I showed it them for only a week of the stay.
Hola,
Thanks for this informative post ! It encouraged my wife and I to apply for a Thai visa in Ho Chi Minh City.
As we both have French nationality, a visa isn’t strictly necessary; we could use the 1-month visa exemption and a 1-month extension. However, applying for a visa grants us 2 months, plus a 1-month extension should we need it.
The tricky part is that we’re traveling by bicycle, so we don’t have an inbound or outbound airplane ticket and were reluctant to rent one. As a result, we not only brought the required documents, but also bank statements and proof of insurance, which would strengthen our application. We also dressed better than we usually do when hanging around. In order to save time, we had pre-filled the application form.
As you describe, there was hardly any queue. The staff there was very smiling and professional, a welcome change from the grumpy Vietnamese we meet daily at any occasion !
They asked us to provide a detailed itinerary to support our application; we went to a nearby coffee and I copied our whole itinerary, adding some explanations at the bottom as well as a thank-you-in-advance note 🙂 After we came back, they asked us to make a second copy of the itinerary. On our third try it was okay and we could deposit everything, including the $40 fee for each of us. Overall the whole process took less slightly more than one hour.
Our passports were ready the next afternoon, and our visa request was accepted ! Party time 🙂
Hi, i am going to HCM city for a new Tourist visa in 2 weeks. I have heard they are getting tighter with their requirements. Is this true? My last T/V was issued in America in March 2018. I have been in Thailand since 1st of April. I have been to HCM city 3 times for a t/v in the last 2 years with no problems. Would appreciate any updates.
Thanks, Peter
You should be fine if you follow everything in this post. Dress well. Be polite and print of all your hotel/flight tickets. If rejected then pay a travel agency to do it for you. Might cost $100 but better than no visa.
